Andrew M. Cuomo, the 56th governor of the state of New York, released the following statement in response to the MTA’s announcement that it plans to shut down A train service to the Rockaways for five months next year for repairs.
The MTA's announced A train shut down for five months is unacceptable.
In 2019, the MTA repeatedly insisted the only way to fix the L train was to shut it down for 18 months. I brought outside experts together and used innovative technology to get the necessary work done ahead of schedule, while keeping the trains running.
The thousands of New Yorkers who rely on the A train to commute should not be needlessly inconvenienced. Don't take the bureaucracy's word for it.
Convene the best experts and find a better way to get it done. Leadership matters.
