Additional Queens Lawmakers Endorse Andrew Cuomo for NYC Mayor
Trio of State Legislators Builds Momentum Following Pivotal Endorsement of Queens Democratic County Chair Rep. Gregory W. Meeks
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, candidate for Mayor of New York City, today received the endorsement of three more Queens legislators: Senator James Sanders Jr., Assembly Member Clyde Vanel, and Assembly Member Alicia Hyndman.
Coming off the heels of an endorsement from the Democratic Organization of Queens County and Chairman Rep. Gregory W. Meeks, the trio of state lawmakers touted Governor Cuomo as a proven manager whose steady leadership through the pandemic and record of accomplishment in Albany demonstrates that he is the only candidate qualified to save our city.
“This is a pivotal moment for our city and Andrew Cuomo was made for this moment,” Senator Sanders said. “This is no time for on the job training. He is the only candidate who possesses the experience of actually managing a bureaucracy while passing some of the most progressive legislation anywhere in the country such as raising the minimum wage to $15. With our city facing a daunting set of challenges, we need to elect a Mayor who is undaunted, unafraid, and undeterred to make Southeast Queens safer and more affordable. Andrew has done it before as Governor and he'll do it again as Mayor, and I'm proud to endorse him.”
“The future of our city is on the line, and there is only one candidate in the race who’s a proven manager, capable of turning things around– and that’s Andrew Cuomo,” Assembly Member Vanel said. “My constituents are getting priced out of their own neighborhoods while our quality of life deteriorates. This is the challenge of our time, and whether it was reforming Albany, handling COVID, or managing any other major crisis, Andrew Cuomo always led and got the job done. I strongly endorse Andrew Cuomo to be the next Mayor of New York City.”
“As New York City faces the need for new leadership that can tackle the crises facing our neighborhoods - the need to make our communities more affordable and the imperative to make our families feel safe – I stand with Queens County Democrats in support of Andrew Cuomo,” Assembly Member Hyndman said. “Cuomo meets the moment. He’s experienced, tested, and has led in times of crisis. That’s why I’m proud, along with a host of other leaders from Queens, to endorse his candidacy for Mayor, and why I was proud to stand with him Sunday and urge my other neighbors to make him their choice.”
This announcement from these Queens leaders comes on the heels of other key endorsements from the borough that include State Senator Toby Ann Stavisky, State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo Jr., Assembly Member Pheffer Amato, Assembly Member Cook, Assembly Member Berger, Assembly Member David Weprin, Assembly Member Edward Braunstein,Council Member Lynn Schulman, District Leader 24A Martha Taylor, District Leader 23B James McGoorty, District Leader 23B Jeanette Garamond, District Leader 23A Frank Gulluscio, District Leader 36B Kimberly Mullarkey, and District Leader 36B Theodore Kasapis, who represent Andrew Cuomo’s hometown of Queens.
Throughout his career in public service, Governor Cuomo has been a champion for working New Yorkers. He raised wages for millions, protected the right to organize when the Supreme Court tried to break the back of the labor movement, increased access to healthcare, enacted the nation's strongest paid family leave program and expanded apprenticeships, vocational training, and workforce development programs. He also advanced the most substantial infrastructure program in a generation, including the Second Avenue Subway, the Moynihan Train Hall and the new Kosciuszko Bridge and the new JFK and LaGuardia Airports – all major projects built with union labor with nation-leading utilization rates of minority and women-owned businesses (MWBEs).
