Cuomo Announces South Brooklyn Endorsements in Race for NYC Mayor
Assembly Member William Colton and Council Member Susan Zhuang Are Latest Officials to Join Campaign to Save Our City
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, candidate for mayor of New York City, today received the endorsements of Assembly Member William Colton and Council Member Susan Zhuang. The South Brooklyn legislators cited the Governor’s steady leadership and response to Hurricane Sandy and commitment to tackling the affordability and homelessness crisis.
Assembly Member Colton represents the 47th Assembly District (AD) and Council Member Zhuang represents the 43rd Council District. Governor Cuomo was also endorsed today by South Brooklyn District Leaders Joyce Xiaoqiong Xie, and Tony Ying Ko (AD 49); Joey Saban and Victoria Mushailova (AD 45); Nancy Tong and Dr. Larry He (AD 47) — who was named the Cuomo Campaign’s Asian Outreach Director.
"As an Assembly Member representing Southern Brooklyn, I’ve seen too many elected officials who couldn’t be bothered to understand the issues facing my constituents. Andrew Cuomo was never one of them,” Assembly Member Bill Colton said. “As Governor, he made sure that if City Hall forgot about Southern Brooklyn - and it often did - then the state stepped up. After Hurricane Sandy, it was the state that provided the leadership necessary to rebuild our community. He also kept our neighborhoods safe, schools funded, and the city affordable. Now, our city is in crisis and all three of those basic government functions are no longer guaranteed. We need Andrew Cuomo and his fearless leadership back to turn our city around. That is why I strongly endorse him for Mayor of New York City."
“Governor Cuomo has consistently fought for the AAPI community, while others have overlooked us. He has a track record of expanding quality education, addressing issues like public safety, combating homelessness, and fighting crime” Council Member Susan Zhuang said. “The city currently has too many people living in unsanctioned shelters who are unaccounted for. Governor Cuomo's record speaks for itself, he will fight for our community, and he's simply the best, proven leader for our city at this critical moment in time, which is why I'm proudly endorsing Andrew Cuomo for Mayor.”
The Governor has also received scores of endorsements from other Brooklyn elected officials and party leaders, including Assembly Member Latrice Walker, Assembly Member Erik Dilan, Council Member Farah Louis, Council Member Darlene Mealy, former Brooklyn Democratic Party Chairman Frank Seddio, Brooklyn Democratic Party Vice Chair Henry Butler, District Leader Anthony Jones, District Leader Arleny Alvarado-McCalla, District Leader Heriberto Mateo.
Throughout his career in public service, Governor Cuomo has been a champion for working New Yorkers. He raised wages for millions, protected the right to organize when the Supreme Court tried to break the back of the labor movement, increased access to healthcare, enacted the nation's strongest paid family leave program and expanded apprenticeships, vocational training, and workforce development programs. He also advanced the most substantial infrastructure program in a generation, including the Second Avenue Subway, the Moynihan Train Hall and the new Kosciuszko Bridge and the new JFK and LaGuardia Airports – all major projects built with union labor.
