Cuomo Gains Endorsement of Utility Workers Union of America, Local 1-2 in Race for NYC Mayor
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, candidate for Mayor of New York City, today received the endorsement of Utility Workers Union of America, Local 1-2, which consists of 7,500 utility workers across all five boroughs. The endorsement comes off the heels of Governor Cuomo’s campaign reporting an unprecedented $1.5 million raised from supporters in less than two weeks since entering the race. In deciding to support Cuomo, they cited the Governor’s strong track record of building major infrastructure projects with union labor and commitment to make New York city safer for working families.
“Andrew Cuomo exemplifies dedication, passion, and determination. We believe he is not only the best candidate to restore safety to our city but also the leader who will champion labor interests,” James Shillitto, President of UWUA said. “Local 1-2 is proud to endorse Andrew Cuomo.”
The Utility Workers Union of America Local 1-2 joins the Teamsters Local 237, Local 3 IBEW, New York City and Vicinity District Council of Carpenters, District Council 9 of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades.
