Union Represents Nearly 29,000 in New York

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, candidate for New York City Mayor, today proudly received the endorsement of the city’s Local Union No. 3, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, a union that represents nearly 29,000 members in every facet of the electrical industry. Flanked by a thousand fired-up IBEW retirees at their biennial NYC luncheon held at the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel, the Governor spoke about his record of undertaking the largest infrastructure program in modern history, creating tens of thousands of good paying jobs and proudly working with union labor to deliver these projects on time and on budget while lifting up the hard-working men and women across the state.
"Working with Local 3 IBEW, we transformed New York City's infrastructure and created a new generation of proud union workers, and in 2025 we must do it again,” Governor Cuomo said. “Because our city is in crisis, and if we’re going to lower crime, improve quality of life, and make it affordable once more, we can’t do it without good-paying union jobs. There are so many important infrastructure projects to jumpstart, others to complete, and even more to dream up—and I look forward to doing it alongside my brothers and sisters in the IBEW.”
"When Governor Cuomo launched and oversaw the largest infrastructure projects in New York’s modern history, it wasn’t just because they were needed—though they certainly were,” Christopher Erikson, Business Manager of Local 3 said. “He did it because, as a kid from Queens, he understands the importance of good union jobs. First and foremost, they create a strong middle class, the backbone of our economy. Just as importantly, these projects provided unprecedented apprenticeship opportunities for the youth of our city and state, especially those most at risk, giving them a career, a future, and the ability to raise a family. That kind of one-two punch is invaluable, and we need a leader who believes in it down to his core. In this mayoral race, that leader is Andrew Cuomo, which is why Local 3 proudly backs his campaign.”
Throughout his career in public service, Governor Cuomo has been a champion for working New Yorkers. He raised wages for millions, protected the right to organize when the Supreme Court tried to break the back of the labor movement, increased access to healthcare, enacted the nation's strongest paid family leave program and expanded apprenticeships, vocational training, and workforce development programs. He also advanced the most substantial infrastructure program in a generation, including the Second Avenue Subway, the Moynihan Train Hall and the new Kosciuszko Bridge and the new JFK and LaGuardia Airports – all major projects built with union labor.
