Cuomo Receives Endorsement of New York City Deputy Sheriffs’ Benevolent Association
Law Enforcement Union Represents Deputy Sheriffs and Supervisory Ranks in New York City
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, candidate for mayor of New York City, today proudly received the endorsement of the New York City Deputy Sheriffs’ Benevolent Association.
“New York City is in crisis and every day our Deputy Sheriffs are on the frontlines working hard to protect and preserve our quality of life,” Governor Cuomo said. “Its not an easy job and we owe these brave men and women a debt of gratitude for all that they do. I look forward to working hand-in-hand with them to save our city and I am honored to have their support.”
“The flood of illegal cannabis stores across all five boroughs would have never been tolerated if Andrew Cuomo was in charge,” Ingrid Simonovic, President of the New York City Deputy Sheriffs' Benevolent Association said. “New York City needs a strong mayor, who isn’t afraid to ruffle feathers if it means keeping our neighborhoods safe. That kind of leadership has been in short supply, and we are paying the price today with higher crime, more quality-of-life issues, and a smaller law enforcement force. The current administration has refused to negotiate a fair and equitable contract with us that has been expired for three years, which has resulted in both low staffing levels and low morale. That needs to change, and with Andrew Cuomo as our mayor, it will. That is why the New York City Deputy Sheriffs’ Benevolent Association endorses his campaign for mayor.”
The law enforcement nod follows a string of influential labor endorsements from Local 3 IBEW, New York City and Vicinity District Council of Carpenters, and District Council 9 of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades.
Throughout his career in public service, Governor Cuomo has been a champion for working New Yorkers. He raised wages for millions, protected the right to organize when the Supreme Court tried to break the back of the labor movement, increased access to healthcare, enacted the nation's strongest paid family leave program and expanded apprenticeships, vocational training, and workforce development programs. He also advanced the most substantial infrastructure program in a generation, including the Second Avenue Subway, the Moynihan Train Hall and the new Kosciuszko Bridge and the new JFK and LaGuardia Airports – all major projects built with union labor.
The New York City Deputy Sheriffs’ Benevolent Association joins U.S. Rep. Ritchie Torres, the Staten Island Democratic Party, Assembly Member Charles Fall, Assembly Member Eddie Gibbs, Assembly Member Yudelka Tapia, Assembly Member Latrice Walker, Council Member Kamillah Hanks, Council Member Farah Louis, former Brooklyn Democratic Party Chairman Frank Seddio, Brooklyn Democratic Party Vice Chair Henry Butler, 25 District Leaders across the city, former National Director of the Anti-Defamation League Abe Foxman, the Village Reform Democratic Club, and the Italian American Leadership Council in endorsing Governor Cuomo for Mayor of New York City.
