Gov. Cuomo Issues Statement on Passing of Former Congresswoman Nita Lowey

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, candidate for Mayor of New York City, today issued the following statement on the passing of former Congresswoman Nita Lowey.

“Nita Lowey was a trailblazer who dedicated her life’s work to fighting for those in need and on behalf of all New Yorkers.

From the moment I met her as a teenager when she joined my father’s campaign for Lieutenant Governor, to her time serving beside him when he became Governor, Nita was a trusted friend and adviser to me and the entire Cuomo family long before she decided to become a congresswoman and serve the people of the Hudson Valley. Her magnetic personality was matched only by her tenacity for the less fortunate which drove each and every day of her three successful decades in public service that led her to become the first woman ever to serve as Chair of the House Appropriations Committee. New York is better off for Nita’s time in office, and her contributions will never be forgotten.

On behalf of the entire Cuomo family, I extend love and condolences to Nita’s husband Steve, her children Dana, Jackie and Douglas and her eight grandchildren.”
