Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today received the endorsement of Assembly Member Jordan J. G. Wright for his campaign for mayor of New York City.

Assembly Member Wright represents the 70th Assembly District in Harlem and is the next generation of leadership for this historic community. After serving  on his local community board, he was elected as a state lawmaker, working in Albany to create more affordable housing, expand healthcare access, and improve public safety. He is the son of former Assembly Member Keith Wright.

“Without a doubt, New York City is standing at a critical juncture,” Assembly Member Wright said. “Harlem is a cultural epicenter, built on progress and innovation yet problems including the ever-rising cost of living and a lack of affordable housing threatens the fabric of our community and of communities city-wide. The unprecedented challenges facing New Yorkers demands bold and effective leadership. Our next mayor must not only understand these struggles, but be armed with the tools to fight them head-on. Andrew Cuomo has a track record of delivering results, standing up for working families, and making sure communities like ours aren’t left behind. He knows how to get things done, and I know he’ll fight for Harlem just as he’s fought for all of New York. That’s why I’m proud to endorse Andrew Cuomo for Mayor and look forward to a strong partnership focused on improving the quality of life for residents of Harlem and beyond.”

Earlier this morning, Governor Cuomo addressed a packed congregation at Mount Baptist Church in Harlem, where he unveiled the first plank of his public safety platform, which calls for hiring additional 5,000 members of the NYPD. The new officers would increase the overall size of the police force by 15 percent – bringing its total size to a near all time high of approximately 39,000 – reversing years of decline in the NYPD ranks. Shortly thereafter, Governor Cuomo and Assembly Member Wright greeted voters at Melba’s Restaurant.

The Assembly Member joins U.S. Rep. Ritchie Torres, former State Comptroller H. Carl McCall, former Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., the Staten Island Democratic Party, Assembly Member Latrice Walker, Assembly Member Erik Dilan, Assembly Member Yudelka Tapia, Assembly Member Charles Fall, Assembly Member Eddie Gibbs, Council Member Farah N. Louis, Council Member Darlene Mealy, Council Member Kamillah Hanks, the New York City and Vicinity District Council of Carpenters, District Council 9 of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, Teamsters Local 237, the Rev. Dr. Johnnie Greene, former Brooklyn Democratic Party Chairman Frank Seddio and Brooklyn Democratic Party Vice Chair Henry Butler, 25 District Leaders from across the city, former national Director of the Anti-Defamation League Abe Foxman, the Village Reform Democratic Club, Aldo's Democratic Club of Astoria, and the Italian American Leadership Council in endorsing Governor Cuomo for Mayor of New York City.

Throughout his career in public service, Governor Cuomo has been a champion for working New Yorkers. He raised wages for millions of workers, passed the strongest gun violence prevention and paid family leave laws in the nation, advanced the most substantial infrastructure program in a generation, including the Second Avenue Subway, the Moynihan Train Hall, the new Kosciuszko Bridge and the new JFK and LaGuardia airports and codified Roe vs. Wade in state law years before the Supreme Court overturned it, all while cutting taxes and reining in spending.
