Queens Democratic Party & Chairman Greg Meeks Endorse ‘Queens Boy’ Andrew Cuomo for NYC Mayor
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, candidate for Mayor of New York City, today proudly received the endorsement of the Democratic Organization of Queens County and Chairman Rep. Gregory W. Meeks. With a lifetime of public service and a proven record of fighting for everyday New Yorkers, Cuomo brings the experience, leadership, and vision necessary to tackle the challenges facing New York City today.
Cuomo was on hand at Queens Democratic Party Headquarters in Forest Hills for the endorsement rally. He was joined by more than 100 elected officials, community leaders, and grassroots supporters that came together to pledge their support and rally behind the Queens native’s candidacy. As his mayoral bid gains momentum, the Queens Democratic Party urges voters to get involved, volunteer, and ensure that New York City continues to move forward under strong Democratic leadership.
"Andrew Cuomo has been a tireless champion for New Yorkers, delivering results that have made our city and state stronger,” Chairman Meeks said. “From expanding affordable housing to fighting for working-class communities, Andrew has the leadership we need at City Hall. The Queens Democratic Party is proud to stand with him in this campaign.”
“As a Queens Boy, I know this borough is the backbone of New York City – a borough that embodies the diversity, hard work and resilience of this great city,” Governor Cuomo said. “I’m honored to have the support of Chairman Meeks and the Queens party as we fight to build a safer, and more affordable city for all. New Yorkers dream of a city where opportunity is abundant, where every neighborhood thrives, and where leadership puts people first—there’s much to do so let’s get to work.”
This announcement comes on the heels of other key endorsements from the borough that include Assembly Member Stacey Pheffer Amato, Assembly Member Vivian Cook, Assembly Member Sam Berger, District Leader 24A Martha Taylor, District Leader 23B James McGoorty, District Leader 23B Jeanette Garamond, District Leader 23A Frank Gulluscio, District Leader 36B Kimberly Mullarkey, and District Leader 36B Theodore Kasapis.
Cuomo is a proud ‘Queens Boy’ who has never forgotten his roots. Born and raised in the borough, he attended Archbishop Molloy High School and has a deep understanding and appreciation for the needs and concerns of the outer borough communities.
As Governor, he has a proud record of delivering for Queens that includes revitalizing and rebuilding Queens’ infrastructure and expanding public transit. Cuomo championed the $8 billion renovation and modernization of LaGuardia Airport, one of the busiest airports in the country – turning it around from ‘worst to first’ – and spearheaded the redevelopment of JFK Airport with a focus on creating a world-class travel hub in our backyard. He also oversaw significant infrastructure investments across Queens, including the development of the LIRR East Side Access project, rebuilding the Second Avenue Subway, and launched several projects to revitalize the waterfront in Long Island City, transforming it into a vibrant residential, business, and cultural hub.
Throughout his career in public service, Governor Cuomo has been a champion for working New Yorkers. He raised wages for millions, protected the right to organize when the Supreme Court tried to break the back of the labor movement, increased access to healthcare, enacted the nation's strongest paid family leave program and expanded apprenticeships, vocational training, and workforce development programs. He also advanced the most substantial infrastructure program in a generation, including the Second Avenue Subway, the Moynihan Train Hall and the new Kosciuszko Bridge and the new JFK and LaGuardia Airports – all major projects built with union labor with nation-leading utilization rates of minority and women-owned businesses (MWBEs).
