Three Queens State Lawmakers Endorse Cuomo for Mayor
Queens Native Receives the Backing of Assembly Members Pheffer Amato, Cook, and Berger
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, candidate for mayor of New York City, today proudly received the endorsement of Assembly Members Stacey Pheffer Amato, Vivian Cook, and Sam Berger. The trio from the Queens delegation threw their support behind Cuomo, a Queens native, citing his record of accomplishments and commitment to making the city safer during this crisis.
Assembly Members Pheffer Amato and Cook represent districts in southeast Queens and Berger’s district covers eastern Queens.
“As the Chairwoman of the NYS Assembly Governmental Employees Committee, let me be clear: our City is struggling with recruitment and retention of our police officers,” Assembly Member Pheffer Amato said. “The NYPD’s uniformed headcount is at its lowest in decades and we need a Mayor who will stand up for our men and women in blue. Andrew Cuomo is that candidate and I strongly endorse his campaign for Mayor.”
"For decades, I have known Andrew and his family and worked alongside to make Queens—and our entire state—safe, affordable, and a beacon of progress,” Assembly Member Cook said. “With our city in crisis, there is no one better suited to fix the serious problems we face. Don’t forget—he’s done it before! Before he was Governor, Albany was a dysfunctional laughingstock. That changed after he was elected Governor. He kept our neighborhoods safe, made government work for the working and middle class, and ensured our city was affordable enough that owning a home was an attainable dream. It’s that kind of record—built through Andrew Cuomo’s strong leadership—that we need back, which is why I’m endorsing his campaign for Mayor."
"I ran for office to make our city safer, improve our schools, and end the rising affordability crisis in my district,” Assembly Member Berger said. “To accomplish that, I need a strong partner in City Hall—and there is no one more qualified than Andrew Cuomo. Just as importantly, Andrew Cuomo has been a steadfast ally of the Jewish community and Israel. Whenever antisemitism reared its ugly head, he stood up and fought back. He was the first in the nation to sign an executive order disallowing transactions between the state and organizations supporting the BDS movement. With antisemitic hate crimes on the rise in our city and around the world, we need a mayor like Andrew Cuomo who will combat it with both words and actions—just as he always has. For all these reasons and more, I proudly endorse Andrew Cuomo for Mayor."
The rousing show of support follows a string of endorsements from other distinguished current and former elected officials, including U.S. Rep. Ritchie Torres, former New York State Comptroller Carl McCall, former Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., Assembly Member Charles Fall, Assembly Member Eddie Gibbs, Assembly Member Yudelka Tapia, Assembly Member Latrice Walker, Assembly Member Jordan Wright, Council Member Kamillah Hanks, Council Member Farah Louis, Council Member Darlene Mealy.
Throughout his career in public service, Governor Cuomo has been a champion for working New Yorkers. He raised wages for millions, protected the right to organize when the Supreme Court tried to break the back of the labor movement, increased access to healthcare, enacted the nation's strongest paid family leave program and expanded apprenticeships, vocational training, and workforce development programs. He also advanced the most substantial infrastructure program in a generation, including the Second Avenue Subway, the Moynihan Train Hall and the new Kosciuszko Bridge and the new JFK and LaGuardia Airports – all major projects built with union labor.
The Queens Assembly Members join the Staten Island Democratic Party, former Brooklyn Democratic Party Chairman Frank Seddio, Brooklyn Democratic Party Vice Chair Henry Butler, 25 District Leaders across the city, former National Director of the Anti-Defamation League Abe Foxman, New York City Deputy Sheriffs’ Benevolent Association, Teamsters Local 237, Local 3 IBEW, New York City and Vicinity District Council of Carpenters, District Council 9 of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, the Village Reform Democratic Club, and the Italian American Leadership Council in endorsing Governor Cuomo for mayor of New York City.
