Two More Brooklyn Democratic Officials Endorse Andrew Cuomo for Mayor
Assembly Member Erik Dilan and City Council Member Darlene Mealy Throw Support Behind Cuomo’s Campaign to Save Our City
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today received the endorsement of Assembly Member Erik Dilan and City Council Member Darlene Mealy for his campaign for mayor of New York City. The two Brooklyn lawmakers highlighted the Governor’s leadership through the pandemic and his commitment to making this city safer and more affordable for all.
Assembly Member Dilan represents the 54th Assembly District and City Council Member Mealy represents the 41st City Council District in Brooklyn.
These nods come on the heels of other powerhouse endorsements from the Brooklyn delegation – including Assembly Member Latrice Walker, Council Member Farah N. Louis, former Brooklyn Democratic Party Chairman Frank Seddio and Brooklyn Democratic Party Vice Chair Henry Butler.
“New York City stands at a critical juncture in its history, it requires a leader with the experience, expertise, and determination to navigate the complex challenges that lie ahead,” said Assembly Member Dilan. “There is no individual better equipped to steer the city through these unprecedented times than Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo’s track record as the Governor of New York speaks for itself. Under his leadership, New York State faced and overcame immense challenges, from economic recovery to the COVID-19 pandemic. His ability to make difficult decisions, communicate effectively with the public, and secure vital resources has proven time and time again that he is a leader who can deliver results when it matters most. His deep understanding of the city’s needs, paired with his commitment to revitalizing New York, makes him uniquely positioned to address the pressing issues facing our neighborhoods. From affordable housing to public safety, to job creation and equitable education, Andrew Cuomo has a comprehensive vision for the future of New York City—one rooted in progress, inclusivity, and sustainable growth. Cuomo’s leadership is driven by the belief that New York is at its strongest when we all rise together. As Mayor, he will be a champion for working families, small businesses, and communities that have long been overlooked. His plan to invest in infrastructure, expand economic opportunities, and ensure quality healthcare and education will help build a future that benefits all New Yorkers. We need a mayor who can bring bold ideas, real solutions, and unwavering resolve. Andrew Cuomo is that leader, and he is the best choice to lead New York City into its next chapter of success.”
"In the years since Andrew Cuomo was Governor, our city has become less safe and less affordable, and it is my constituents who suffer the consequences," said Council Member Darlene Mealy. "As Andrew Cuomo said, this is the direct result of the government failing to act with purpose, intelligence, and common sense. I am tired of seniors going hungry, children lacking sufficient after-school care, and parents wondering if they can still afford to live in the very neighborhoods they grew up in. These problems aren't complicated, and neither are the solutions. The only thing missing? A leader like Andrew Cuomo as our mayor—and that is why I strongly endorse his campaign.”
They join U.S. Rep. Ritchie Torres, former State Comptroller H. Carl McCall, former Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., the Staten Island Democratic Party, Assembly Member Yudelka Tapia, Assembly Member Charles Fall, Assembly Member Eddie Gibbs, Council Member Kamillah Hanks, the New York City and Vicinity District Council of Carpenters, District Council 9 of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, Teamsters Local 237, 25 District Leaders from across the city, former national Director of the Anti-Defamation League Abe Foxman, the Village Reform Democratic Club, Aldo's Democratic Club of Astoria, and the Italian American Leadership Council in endorsing Governor Cuomo for Mayor of New York City.
Throughout his career in public service, Governor Cuomo has been a champion for working New Yorkers. He raised wages for millions of workers, passed the strongest gun violence prevention and paid family leave laws in the nation, advanced the most substantial infrastructure program in a generation, including the Second Avenue Subway, the Moynihan Train Hall, the new Kosciuszko Bridge and the new JFK and LaGuardia airports and codified Roe vs. Wade in state law years before the Supreme Court overturned it, all while cutting taxes and reining in spending.
